IU’s pre-release song “Love wins all” shot to No. 1 on Melon’s Top 100 streaming chart an hour after its release, becoming the fastest song by a female artist to top the chart since its system renewal in August 2021, her agency EDAM Entertainment said Thursday.
The song was released on Wednesday at 6 p.m. and holds the No. 1 spot on the Korean music streaming service provider's Top 100 chart as of Thursday morning.
The streaming service renewed its previous 24Hits chart to the current Top 100 chart in August 2021 to prevent distortions due to hours where there is less usage. The renewed Top 100 streaming chart is released every hour based on the usage from the past 24 hours and the past hour.
“Love wins all” also topped other local streaming services’ charts, including Genie and Bugs.
The pre-release song garnered overseas attention, sitting at No. 1 on iTunes Top Song chart in 23 countries including Cambodia, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Thailand and Finland.
The song’s music video, featuring BTS’s V and directed by "Concrete Utopia" (2023) director Um Tae-hwa, was released on YouTube Wednesday. The music video quickly surpassed 16 million views, landing at No. 1 on YouTube’s Trending list in Korea.
IU debuted in 2008 and has become one of Korea's most renowned solo artists. She released hit songs such as "Good Day" (2010), "YOU&I" (2011), "The Red Shoes" (2013), "Through the Night" (2017), "Lilac" (2021) among others.
The singer will embark on the “H.E.R.” world tour starting on March 2 at KSPO Dome in Songpa District, southern Seoul and stop at a total of 18 cities in and outside of Korea.
