LG Uplus said on Tuesday that it has created a mobile phone charging vehicle to support future disaster relief activities. The battery charging vehicle, modified from Hyundai Staria vans, was developed with an investment of 60 million won ($45,000) to assist civilian support activities in areas struck by natural disasters such as earthquakes and floods.

Capable of simultaneously charging up to 68 mobile phone auxiliary batteries, the vehicle is equipped with a mobile router used in subways, providing free Wi-Fi. It includes two portable TVs, ‘LG StanByMe GO,’ for watching broadcasts, and a wireless connection printer is also available.

LG Uplus previously installed mobile phone battery charging stations and Wi-Fi zones natural disaster zones such as the Miryang forest fire in May 2022, the Pohang typhoon in September 2022, and the Hongseong forest fire in April 2023.

The newly developed battery charging vehicle is set to be dispatched to disaster relief sites nationwide, ensuring both affected residents and emergency responders, including firefighters and military personnel, have access to its resources, the company said.
