LG Electronics to open Smart Home AI Agent to developers

LG Electronics Inc. has decided to open its artificial intelligence (AI) platform for smart home operations to developers and customers, expanding the ecosystem of AI Agent.

Lee Hyang-eun, Managing Director of the Customer Experience Innovation Division at LG Electronics, revealed the plan in a statement on Monday, saying, “AI Agent will serve as a catalyst for the open platform ecosystem.”

The company aims to showcase the AI agent platform, integrating smart home and robotics technology, to developers and customers.

LG Electronics plans to provide software development kits (SDKs) to external developers following the launch of AI Agent. This will enable developers to incorporate additional features beyond the basic functions offered by AI Agent, enhancing its versatility and utility.

The company will also leverage the LG ThinQ application programming interface (API) business for AI Agent. APIs standardize data input and output methods, allowing specific platform information to be utilized across different platforms.

“AI Agent will be integrated with ThinQ, and as developers participate in the platform ecosystem, innovative ideas will converge, benefiting the company in terms of the value chain,” said a company official.

LG Electronics is set to release AI Agent in Korea next year before expanding to North America. To enhance accessibility, the company is considering a subscription model. AI Agent was first unveiled on January 9 at the Consumer Electronics Show 2024 in Las Vegas.
