CJ Logistics Corp. announced Monday that it won a contract to distribute JW Pharmaceutical Corp.’s intravenous solutions to hospitals, clinics, and public health centers.

Intravenous solutions, crucial for medical treatments, require delicate handling during storage and transportation, especially in sub-zero temperatures to prevent freezing and maintain their efficacy. The transportation process demands advanced technological capabilities, including precise temperature control.

CJ Logistics possesses cold chain capabilities, ensuring the maintenance of the appropriate temperature throughout transportation to the final delivery destination.

With a 9,917 square-meter healthcare logistics center in Dongtan, Gyeonggi Province, compliant with the Korea Good Supplying Practice (KGSP) for pharmaceutical distribution, CJ Logistics operates 11 regional centers in cities such as Busan, Gwangju, and Daejeon.

The company also manages a fleet of over 200 dedicated pharmaceutical delivery vehicles.

The company employs its proprietary temperature and humidity control solution, Cool Guardian, developed in-house, to manage real-time information on the logistics center’s temperature, humidity, vehicle operation records, and enhance the safety of intravenous solutions.

CJ Logistics demonstrated its cold chain capabilities in 2020 when it took over vaccine deliveries, replacing the incumbent supplier following an incident involving influenza vaccines being exposed to room temperature.

In July 2023, the company received the Center of Excellence for Independent Validators in Pharmaceutical Logistics (CEIV Pharma) certification from the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

The contracted volume for the latest intravenous solutions amounts to 11 million boxes per year. Given JW Pharmaceutical’s 50 percent domestic market share in intravenous solutions and the inclusion of existing customer volumes, CJ Logistics is set to handle 70 percent of the country’s entire intravenous solution distribution.
