Shares opened slightly higher Monday on the back of gains from technology stocks.

The Kospi rose 4.81 points, or 0.19 percent, to 2,477.55 in the first 15 minutes of trading.

Samsung Electronics moved up 0.67 percent and SK hynix gained 2.41 percent.

Naver shot up 2.32 percent, with Kakao also advancing 1.74 percent.

Pharmaceutical shares were among major winners as well, with Samsung Biologics increasing 0.52 percent and Celltrion adding 1.7 percent.

The local currency was trading at 1,335.7 won against the dollar, down 3.3 won from the previous session's close.
