"We are not embarrassed by our hairstyle, I think it's a proud color for our band," Minjae, leader of the rookie boy band DXMON, said during a press showcase held Wednesday in southern Seoul for the band's debut EP "Hyperspace."

"I thought it was eye-catching, but I didn't expect that hairstyle to land on my head. I was initially worried that the hairstyle wouldn't fit my style [] but it slowly grew on me as I tried it and got used to it. I think it even ended up boosting my confidence."

Rookie boy band DXMON is far from embarrassed about their eccentric hairstyle: In fact, members hope to make it their signature color.

Six-member boy band DXMON became the talk of the town among K-pop enthusiasts with the members' eye-catching hairstyles. Jo had a bright red spikey hairstyle while Hee donned deep blue hair, a striking sight even for people used to K-pop style.

“We are not embarrassed by our hairstyle, I think it’s a proud color for our band,” Minjae, leader of the rookie boy band DXMON, said during a press showcase held Wednesday in southern Seoul for the band's debut EP “Hyperspace.”

DXMON consists of five Korean members — Minjae, Hee, TK, Rex and Jo — alongside one Japanese member, Seita.

But even as an enthusiastic rookie band, the unusual hairstyle had caught them off guard.

“I believe it was our CEO who first suggested the idea,” Jo, the youngest member of the group, said.

“I thought it was eye-catching, but I didn’t expect that hairstyle to land on my head. I was initially worried that the hairstyle wouldn’t fit my style […] but it slowly grew on me as I tried it and got used to it. I think it even ended up boosting my confidence.”

Jo shared that his "spiky hair" takes an hour and a half for their hair stylists to prepare every time.

DXMON’s debut EP “Hyperspace” features six total tracks: “N.W.B,” “Very,” and instrumental tracks of “Burn Up” and “Spark.” “Burn Up” was released early as the band’s pre-debut track on Jan. 1.

“'Burn Up' is filled with energy and it’s centered around the performance side of things, while ‘Spark’ is an easy-listening track that you can listen to every day,” Minjae said. “We went with double lead tracks ['Burn Up' and 'Spark'] as we wanted to showcase the two contrasting sides of our band.”

“[We recommend people] look out for our shocking hairstyle, our performance and our outfits while watching and listening to ‘Burn Up,’ while concentrating more on the attractive melody and our beautiful dance for ‘Spark,’” Jo added.

The hairstyle is not the only thing that makes DXMON stand out, as the band’s choreography, too, is eye-catching with its complex dance moves.

“There’s a move where Jo does a backflip and lands on the ground; I think we practiced that move 200 or 300 times over,” Rex said.

“We shot many videos of ourselves practicing […] which is full of moments where we fall over."

“No matter what other kinds of special hairstyles we try in the future, we will embrace them, and that applies not just to Jo and Hee, but everyone here; I hope you look forward to our future activities,” Minjae said.
