LG Electronics Inc. WashCombo, a laundry solution combining washing and drying in one unit, is gaining popularity in the United States, with initial sales surpassing those of premium front-load washers by 60-70 percent despite the relatively high price.

The WashCombo integrates a high-capacity drum washing machine with an inverter heat pump dryer, allowing users to wash and dry a 4.5kg load of laundry within just two hours with the press of a single button.

The product is crafted with an emphasis on streamlining time management and enhancing convenience, specifically tailored to meet the preferences of North American consumers who prioritize such features.

One of the key features of the WashCombo is the application of heat pump drying technology.

The Korean home appliance maker developed a dedicated module for the washer-dryer combo, reducing fabric damage during the drying process. Additionally, LG Electronics strategically aligned the product with the U.S. Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) benefits through heat pump technology.

Starting from the second quarter, U.S. consumers who purchase products featuring heat pump technology can expect tax deductions and subsidy support under the IRA.

However, the introduction of an all-in-one washing and drying machine with heat pump technology is unprecedented, requiring approval from the U.S. government.

“Under the IRA, low-income individuals can receive an $840 subsidy when purchasing eco-friendly products,” Kim Dae-heon, LG Electronics USA’s washing machine sales team manager, told Maeil Business Newspaper last week. “As the heat pump dryer is 100 percent covered, we are currently confirming whether the all-in-one WashCombo is eligible for these benefits.”

The WashCombo’s dryer filter is installed on top of the unit.

“The auto-condensing feature allows users to automatically manage the dust filter inside the dryer, which is very convenient,” Kim said.

LG Electronics plans to introduce WashCombo to the Korean market in March, with production taking place at the Changwon factory.
