The World Turned Upside Down: America, China, and the Struggle for Global Leadership

Author:Clyde Prestowitz Translators:Kang Ik-hyun, Kim Byung-kyu, Kim Jin-ho Publisher: Pakyoungsa

The 2021 book written by Clyde Prestowitz, founder and president of the Economic Strategy Institute, has now been translated from English into Korean. The book dives into the key challenges that the United States and the international community face when dealing with China, particularly touching on topics of U.S.-China relations and economic security.

The author's speech is straightforward and doesn't shy away from sharply criticizing China's communism and its authoritarian stance. From strongly warning how such power poses a threat to the free world to presenting comprehensive strategies toward China, the book has been praised for its in-depth analysis in reviews by the Financial Times, the Asia Times, Mandarin Capital and more.

Former U.S. President Richard Nixon once said, "We may have created a Frankenstein" regarding China. Prestowitz points out that Kissinger-style diplomacy is one that is responsible for creating that monster. Another example is the principle of reciprocity: While The New York Times is banned from being published in China, why is the China Daily allowed to be distributed in the United States?

The Korean version is currently out of stock at Kyobo, but it can also be purchased on Aladin and Yes24.

The three translators are experts in political science and international relations. Kang Ik-hyun completed his doctorate at Dankook University. Kim Byung-kyu has a Ph.D. at Dongguk University for North Korean studies, and Kim Jin-ho is currently a professor of political science at Dankook University. He also reports for the Yazhou Zhoukan, a Chinese-language newsweekly.
