Protest of hauliers and farmers in Romania

Hauliers and farmers started a protest a week ago, blocking the entry roads of Romania's capital and few other big cities. The hauliers complain over high insurance RCA (compulsory civil liability policy) and tax rates and long waiting times at the borders, and as well at the trucks hub for Constanta Sea port, the country main harbor at the Black Sea. On their side, farmers are demanding the acceleration of subsidies and compensation payments for those affected by drought or by the disruption generated by the import of Ukrainian cereals. In their seventh day of combined action, protesters also gathered at border-crossing points, temporarily blocking the northeastern border with Ukraine. Russia's blockade of commercial sea ports of Ukraine at the Black Sea transformed Romania into a transit hub for Ukrainian grains, especially through the port of Constanta. EPA/Robert Ghement
