Koreans see entrepreneurship as way out of economic crisis

South Koreans identified entrepreneurship as a solution to the country’s economic crisis, a survey showed on Sunday.

According to a joint survey by Maeil Business Newspaper and the Federation of Korean Industries (FKI) on Sunday, 56 percent of respondents cited entrepreneurship as a solution to overcoming the country’s complex crisis. The duo commissioned pollsters Kookmin Research Group and Ace Research to conduct a survey of 1,500 people aged 18 and older.

More than half of those polled also believed that entrepreneurship should be included in the regular curriculum, with 56 percent in favor of the move.

For entrepreneurial role models who have contributed to the development of the Korean economy, the late Chung Ju-yung, founding honorary chairman of Hyundai Group, ranked first with 35.6 percent, and the late Lee Byung-chul, founding chairman of Samsung Group, ranked second with 17.3 percent. They were followed by the late Lee Kun-hee, former chairman of Samsung Group, with 14.5 percent, and the late Park Tae-joon, founding honorary chairman of POSCO, with 6.6 percent.
