Doosan Group Chairman Park Jeong-won urged the incorporation of artificial intelligence technology as a pivotal force in future transformations across all business sectors. He particularly expressed optimism about the potential of small modular reactors (SMRs), which Doosan Enerbility has identified as a new growth engine, to serve as a viable alternative in the face of increasing power consumption due to AI advancements.

On Wednesday, Park visited the Doosan booth at CES 2024, situated at the Las Vegas Convention Center West Hall. Accompanying him were Doosan Group Vice Chairman Park Ji-won, Doosan Bobcat Vice Chairman Scott Park, Doosan Enerbility Vice Chairman Jung Yeon-in, and Doosan CEO Kim Do-won, among others.

During the visit, Park enjoyed a cocktail prepared by a collaborative robot from Doosan Robotics, equipped with AI technology that analyzes facial expressions to serve the appropriate cocktail. He also received a presentation on the operation of fully electric small construction machines from Doosan Bobcat that use transparent displays for control.

“AI technology is not exclusive to information technology companies. Doosan has applied AI in collaborative robots and construction machinery, establishing a high level of competitiveness in these fields,” he said during his visit to the Doosan booth, stressing, “We must actively use AI technology across all other business sectors.”

Park particularly highlighted the significance of SMRs, saying, “As AI advances, more data centers will be installed and lead to a natural surge in power demand. SMRs and similar next-generation energy sources could serve as good alternatives.”

Doosan Group’s SMR business is driven by Doosan Enerbility. The company is gearing up to make a splash in the global SMR production specialty sector, cooperating with foundational technology providers such as U.S.-based Nuscale Power and X-Energy.

Doosan Enerbility showcased a scale model of its SMR at CES 2024, and Park visited the booths of Korean companies including Samsung Electronics Co. and LG Electronics Inc., as well as global mobility firms such as Mercedes-Benz, Mobileye Global Inc., and Magna, after his visit to the Doosan booth.
