City of Bordeaux inaugurates memory stones for Holocaust victims

epa11067666 Mayor of Bordeaux Pierre Hurmic (L), and French psychiatrist Boris Cyrulnik (R) pose with memorial paving stones known as 'Stolpersteine' in honor of his parents Aaron and Nadia Cyrulnik, during an inauguration ceremony in front of their last residence in Bordeaux, France, 10 January 2024. Cyrulnik, who became known in France for having popularized and developed the concept of resilience, unveiled the two paving stones with brass plates inscribed with the names and life dates of his parents deported to the Auschwitz concentration camp in 1942 and 1943. The first Stolpersteine was laid by German artist and creator of the idea Gunter Demnig in 1992 in Germany, and since then more than 98,000 paving stones have been installed in nearly 1,800 European municipalities.
