Supreme Court announces date for Pakistan's PTI party election symbol restoration hearing

The Supreme Court on 08 Januray fixed the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) application for the restoration of bat election symbol for hearing on 10 January The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on 03 January restored the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP)'s decision to deny the 'bat' electoral symbol to the PTI party, declaring its intra-party polls null and void. The court's announcement follows an appeal filed by the electoral body challenging a previous ruling that had suspended the ECP decision. The PTI's intra-party elections, held on 02 December, drew criticism and were nullified by the ECP for non-compliance with election regulations. The ECP invoked the provisions of the Elections Act 2017, declaring PTI ineligible to obtain its traditional electoral 'bat' symbol due to failure to hold elections by the party's constitution and election laws.
