Polish President Duda and Sejm Speaker Holownia meet in Warsaw

The Polish president has invited the speaker of the lower house of parliament for a meeting to discuss two opposition MPs who have been convicted of abuse of power and stripped of their seats, a presidential aide announced on 08 January. In December 2023, the former interior minister, Mariusz Kaminski and his deputy Maciej Wasik were sentenced to two years in prison for masterminding an anti-corruption provocation in 2007 when they were heading the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau (CBA). Back in March 2015, Kaminski and Wasik had already been sentenced to three years in prison in the same case, but in November 2015, President Duda pardoned them. EPA/LESZEK SZYMANSKI POLAND OUT
