A woman in her 30s was found dead with a chest wound in Han River on Saturday night.
A report claiming a drowned person was not moving in the water was made to the Gwangjin Police Precinct at 8:07 p.m. on Saturday.
The police retrieved the woman's body from the water near Olympic Bridge in Gwangjin District, eastern Seoul, at 8:24 p.m.
Her chest was wounded and she was wearing a hoodie and pants, according to the police. Her jacket and a bag carrying her mobile phone were found by police nearby.
The police said the woman arrived at Han River Park alone. She left her residence in Icheon, Gyeonggi around 1 p.m. on the same day. Closed-circuit television footage showed her entering the park around 7:30 p.m.
The investigation authority is tracing her whereabouts from 7:30 p.m. to 8:07 p.m.
The police said they will conduct an autopsy on Monday.
“The authority cannot confirm whether it is a murder case. However, considering the odd characteristic of this death, the police are open to all possibilities,” a police official said. The official said details cannot be shared as the investigation is underway.
