North Korea launched an additional 60 artillery shells into the West Sea on Saturday.
The South Korean Joint Chief of Staff reported that North Korea launched artillery shells for an hour starting at 4 p.m., targeting the northwest of the buffer zone near Yeonpyeong Island.
It marked the second consecutive day of heightened tensions following the firing of 200 shells in the maritime buffer zone.
In response, the South Korean military on Friday deployed 400 shells in the south of the Northern Limit Line.
