Korean celebrities IU, Lee Je-hoon and Nayeon are continuing the New Year spirit with a round of donations.
Singer-songwriter IU spread the warmth again by donating 10 million won ($ 7,600) to help underprivileged households get heating for the winter in Yangpyeong County, Gyeonggi, according to county officials Friday.
IU recently donated 200 million won to four organizations — the Korea Association of Senior Welfare Centers, Korea National Association of Child Welfare, Korean Unwed Mothers Families Association and Korea Association of Welfare Institutions for Persons with Disabilities — for the same reason on Sunday.
The singer has supported single-parent families and children raised by grandparents in Yangpyeong County since 2020.
“We thank IU for giving hope to the county through her consistent support,” said Jeon Jin-seon, the county mayor, on Friday.
Actor Lee Je-hoon donated 100 million won to the Asan Medical Center to support patients from underprivileged households with medical issues related to the heart, brain and respiratory organs, his agency Company On said Friday.
“It may be difficult right now, but I sincerely hope that [the patients] will soon be able to overcome their illness and return to their healthy daily lives,” Lee told reporters.
Twice’s Nayeon donated 30 million won to the Community Chest of Korea to help people who need medical support, becoming the first Honor Society member of this year, according to her agency JYP Entertainment.
Members of the Honor Society have donated over 100 million won to the Community Chest of Korea.
Nayeon has been constantly donating to the organization since 2020 and even donated 30 million won anonymously in 2022.
“It’s an honor to be named the first member of this year’s Honor Society,” Nayeon told the media on Friday. “I will work hard this year to become an artist providing a positive impact, though it may be small.”
