At least 82 people were killed in strong earthquake in central Japan

Continuous strong earthquakes have been affecting central Japan since 01 January 2024. The Ishikawa Prefecture Government has announced that 82 people were killed and 242 people are reported missing in the wake of a magnitude 7 earthquake (the USGS listed the magnitude as 7.5). About 33,000 residents in Ishikawa Prefecture have evacuated to 355 makeshift evacuation centers. According to Hokuriku Electric Power Company, about 33,900 homes lost electricity in the prefecture.
