Samsung, Hyundai Motor partner for home-car connection

Samsung Electronics and Hyundai Motor Group announced on Thursday that they have signed a partnership agreement for the ‘Home-to-Car’ and ‘Car-to-Home’ services.

Under the agreement, future Hyundai Motor and Kia customers will be able to remotely control home electronic devices from within their vehicles via the infotainment system’s touchscreen or voice commands. Conversely, they can also control their vehicles remotely using AI speakers, TVs, or smartphone applications from their homes.

For example, customers can pre-operate their air conditioners, TVs, or lights while driving back home, or check their vehicle’s status before leaving their homes, as well as activating the heating or cooling functions in advance.

Users can also check their electric vehicle’s battery levels and estimated driving range via their smartphone or TV screens as they prepare to leave for work.

Hyundai Motor and Kia aim to develop a reliable infotainment system capable of providing stable services and plan to provide these functions to existing vehicles through over-the-air (OTA) updates.
