LG to showcase AI-powered smart home solutions

LG Electronics Inc. will unveil a smart home solution incorporating artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, whereby AI can communicate with human users to understand human emotions and health status.

According to LG Electronics on Tuesday, the electronics maker will showcase its AI Smart Home Solution at the 2024 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas next Tuesday (local time).

“In previous solutions, AI mainly focused on understanding speech and upgrading home appliances to match the lifestyle. In future smart homes, AI will autonomously take care of the customer’s life,” the company said.

LG’s future AI smart home solution that will be presented at CES can detect, interpret, and proactively respond to human speech, behavior, and emotions. Cameras and sensors affixed to appliances can monitor customers’ health, adjusting indoor temperature, humidity, and more according to the results.

Customers can also easily control home appliances even when they are not at home, with sensors detecting unused areas in the home and switching products to power-saving mode. The system also includes features such as turning off unnecessary appliances or activating security mode when the customer is away for an extended period.

Sensors and Internet of Things (IoT) devices at home can be connected and controlled automatically through LG ThinQ, the company’s smart home platform. “We will create a smart home with solutions tailored to customers’ needs via an ever-evolving LG ThinQ,” Jung Ki-hyun, head of the platform business center, said.

LG Electronics will also unveil a smart home AI agent in Las Vegas in 2024, which incorporates AI, robotics, and autonomous driving technologies. The smart home AI agent is a companion appliance capable of recognizing voice, sound, and images within the home. It also functions as a smart home hub, connecting and controlling appliances and IoT devices.
