President Yoon Suk Yeol appointed Lim Jong-in, a professor of cyber security at Korea University, to the newly created post of special cyber secretary.
The presidential office said Tuesday that Lim will assist Yoon in devising policy measures to counter increasing cyber security threats.
Lim currently serves as the chair professor of information security at the university's graduate school.
Lim has headed a security expert council under the Financial Security Institute and served as a member of the policy advisor to the Office of National Security.
He was the special national security secretary to former President Park Geun-hye.
