The Caixin China General Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) slightly improved to 50.8 in December 2023 from 50.7 in November 2023. This surpassed market expectations of 50.4 and indicated the highest reading since August. The output grew the most in seven months, and new orders increased at the fastest pace since February. However, new export orders fell at the slowest pace in six months. On the other hand, employment declined for the fourth consecutive month and the fastest in seven months. Purchasing activity remained unchanged, while the supply chain performance worsened due to a lack of some raw materials and stretched supplier capacity. EPA/ALEX PLAVEVSKI
