Israel's Supreme Court strikes down main legal reform part of the governement's judicial system overhaul

As per its statement, Israel's Supreme Court has on 01 January and by a majority vote, struck down the main legal reform which was part of the Israeli governement's judicial system overhaul which had triggered months of protests against the goverfnment until the very last day of 2023. The court ruled that it has the authority to conduct judicial review of basic laws and to intervene in exceptional and extreme cases where the Knesset exeeded its founding authority.
