A new upcoming Netflix film, "Badland Hunters," starring Don Lee, will be released on the streaming service on Jan. 26, Netflix announced Tuesday.
A dystopian action film directed by Heo Myeong-haeng, "Badland Hunters" takes place in near-future Korea ruined by a catastrophic earthquake that has brought the world to pieces, leaving violence as the only governing force of the leftover wasteland.
Lee plays Namsam, a "hunter" who navigates throughout the wasteland to find resources to sustain lives in his village. Lee Jun-young plays Choi Ji-wan, Namsam's trusted partner, while Lee Hee-jun plays a doctor and Roh Jeong-eui takes on the role of Suna, a girl who follows Namsam around.
"Badland Hunters" is the directorial debut for Heo, who is known as the martial arts director for "The Outlaws" (2017) franchise. Heo also directed the fourth installment in the franchise that will follow "The Roundup: No Way Out," which is slated for release in theaters in the first half of this year.
"Badland Hunters" was created by Climax Studio, which was behind the 2023 action flick "Concrete Utopia," also based on an earthquake-struck Korean peninsula and the struggles between the survivors.
