A crane lifts the gigantic orb that will illuminate downtown Seoul during the countdown to the New Year at Sejong-daero in Jongno District, central Seoul, on Sunday. More than 100,000 people are expected to join in the celebrations, including the annual bell-ringing ceremony at the Bosingak Pavilion. The Seoul Metropolitan Government will host New Year’s events at Sejong-daero and the nearby Bosingak Pavilion from 11 p.m. on Sunday to 1 a.m. on Monday, featuring performances including K-pop acts such as Enhypen and a parade. Roads are closed off around Jonggak Station and Gwanghwamun until 7 a.m. on Monday, while the operation of subways and city buses will be extended. Some 3,500 police officers and safety officials will be deployed for crowd control. [NEWS1]
