The South Korean government will raise the duty-free limit of perfumes purchased by overseas travelers to 100 milliliters in January 2024.

According to the Ministry of Economy and Finance on Wednesday, the duty-free limit of perfumes among personal belongings brought in by overseas travelers will be raised to 100 ml from 60 ml.

The ministry said that it amended the enforcement regulations of the Customs Act, taking into account the increased demand for large-capacity perfumes and the convenience of travelers.

Following the revision, the ministry anticipates an expansion of consumer choices as travelers will now be able to purchase duty-free sets that include large-capacity perfumes or sets of two 50ml perfumes, which are more affordable in terms of price per volume.

The amendment is also expected to stimulate the release of new products.

The current duty-free limit of perfumes – set at 60ml – has been in place since 1979.
