The First Train of the reopened Vilnius-Riga direct route arrives in Riga

Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Simonyte with other passangers also took the first train departed from Vilnius Railway Station to the Latvian capital. In Riga, she met her Latvian counterpart, Prime Minister Evika SiliÀa. The route is operated by LTG Link, the passenger arm of Lietuvos Gelezinkeliai (Lithuanian Railways, LTG), Lithuania's state-owned railway company. According to Lithuanian official officials, the Vilnius-Riga train will serve as a complementary means for travelling to the Latvian capital, as rail travel is a 'European habit' and they hope that in the future this route will be extended to the Estonian capital.
