Security has been intensified ahead of new year after several Pakistani soldiers were killed and injured on 12 December in a militant attack on a makeshift military base set up in a school building in Dera Ismail Khan, in northwest Pakistan, Pakistani military media wing ISPR confirmed. The attack, claimed by the new militant group Tehreek-i-Jihad Pakistan, resulted in at least 23 soldiers killed and over 20 injured. The group's emergence raises concerns about potential links to the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, as security analysts attribute the surge in militant activities to the Afghan Taliban's return to power in neighboring Afghanistan.
