The Embassy of Israel in Korea published Tuesday a short video depicting what the Oct. 7 attack could have looked like in Korea.
“We tried to imagine the terrible events of Oct. 7 in a Korean setting in order to make the Gaza War more understandable for people here in distant East Asia," said Akiva Tor, ambassador of Israel to Korea. "For some of our friends, it isn’t clear why Israel needs to defeat Hamas, so we tried to make what happened to us more immediate by placing it in familiar surroundings. I don’t believe any democratic country which cares for its citizens would act differently than Israel."
Describing the attack taking place on Christmas Day, the video aims to communicate to the Korean public the magnitude of what Israelis went through on that day, the Embassy of Israel in Korea said.
Israel was attacked by Hamas militants on Oct. 7, which resulted in more than 1,200 casualties and over 240 people taken hostage in Gaza, mostly civilians, including men, women and children, the embassy said.
Israel began its counterattack with a large-scale ground assault in Gaza on Oct. 27. Officials in Gaza have put the Palestinian death toll at around 20,000 as of last week.
