Samsung, LG to focus on AI technologies at CES 2024

South Korean tech giants Samsung Electronics Co. and LG Electronics Inc. are expected to showcase their latest artificial intelligence (AI) technologies at Consumer Electronics Show 2024 (CES) in Las Vegas, the United States.

Samsung Electronics will hold a press conference on January 8, local time, under the theme of “AI for All.” Attention is on how AI will be integrated into Samsung Electronics’ latest home appliances, alongside the much-awaited introduction of its own generative AI Samsung Gauss that is anticipated to be featured in the Galaxy S24.

Under the theme of “Redesigning the Future of Customers,” LG Electronics is set to introduce a customer experience based on AI and innovative technology as it transforms into a smart life solutions company.

SK telecom Co., the country’s leading mobile operator, will also showcase various AI technologies, including urban air mobility (UAM), AI chip named SAPEON, and AI-based indoor/outdoor traffic and network analysis system LITMUS+ at CES 2024.

The company will also exhibit Excalibur, a veterinary AI service that helps diagnose X-rays on animals, SAPEON’s latest AI semiconductor X330, and AI Media Studio, a content platform that uses AI to convert old videos into high resolution or generate subtitles and translations.

The Consumer Technology Association (CTA), the organizer of CES 2024, said earlier that AI will be “pervasive throughout the CES 2024 show floor and conference programming.”

The CES 2024 Innovation Awards will also feature a new category for AI.

Keynote speeches will be delivered by the chief executive officers of major U.S. chip companies – Pat Gelsinger of Intel Corp. and Cristiano Amon of Qualcomm Inc.

“AI is driving fundamental changes in the interconnection between technology and humanity,” Gelsinger said. “At CES 2024, we will demonstrate how semiconductors implement AI features for both consumers and businesses.”

Intel plans to showcase its commitment to “AI Everywhere,” a catchphrase the company has been promoting, at CES 2024. Intel recently unveiled a diverse lineup of semiconductors, including for AI learning, PCs, and data centers.

Qualcomm is focusing on on-device AI, which can operate generative AI without internet connectivity.

Alongside AI, sustainability emerges as an overarching theme at CES 2024.

Various industries, including mobility, energy, food tech, and smart homes, are creating innovations to reduce carbon emissions and combat climate change.

Korean auto giant Hyundai Motor Co. will present its vision for the hydrogen business in addition to future cars.

SK Group plans to present a blueprint for a Net Zero world, where the climate crisis is resolved, with seven affiliated companies, including SK Inc., SK innovation Co., and SK hynix Inc., organizing a unified exhibition hall.
