African migrants take challenging migration route across Yemen

Nearly 95,000 African migrants, notably from Ethiopia and Somalia, have arrived in Yemen between January and November 2023, surpassing the total arrivals recorded in 2022, which stood at approximately 70,000, according to recent estimates by the International Organization for Migration (IOM). For many of the migrants, who have traveled from their home countries in the Horn of Africa region, the long journey involves a risky voyage across the Gulf of Aden aboard a smuggler?s boat, before arriving on the shores of Yemen. After arriving on a beach in Yemen, migrants can walk hundreds of kilometers on foot through several cities of war-ravaged Yemen in order to reach their final destinations in the Gulf countries, IOM reported.
