Pakistan's Election Commission receives nomination papers for upcoming general elections

The electoral process in Pakistan has commenced as the Election Commission began receiving nomination papers for the general elections scheduled for 08 February 2024. With over 128.5 million registered voters, candidates from 175 political and religious parties will vie for 266 National Assembly seats and 593 Provincial Assembly seats, according to data released by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). The Election Commission has extended by two days the deadline for submission of nomination papers from 22 to 24 December 'to facilitate political parties and candidates', according to its statement.
