42dot, Hyundai Motor’s autonomous driving developer, will display its AI-powered mobility technology at the upcoming CES 2024 tech fair for the first time.

The Seoul-based mobility developer said Friday that it will join Hyundai Motor’s exhibition booth during the annual tech fair, which will take place from Jan. 9 to 12 in Las Vegas.

Centered around the idea of a self-learning “AI machine,” 42dot will display its operating system for software-defined vehicles (SDVs), often described as “smartphones on wheels.”

SDVs are equipped with an over-the-air system, a wireless technology that drivers can use to update their cars' software and add new features. The technology can also significantly reduce the production time of a car, from design to manufacturing.

42dot aims to redefine vehicles as “data machines” that can upgrade themselves through machine learning. Its SDV operating system accelerates the development process for software and hardware components of a vehicle by separating the two from each other, with reduced computing units, according to the company.

Founded in 2019 by former Naver chief technology officer Song Chang-hyun, 42dot was acquired by Hyundai Motor Group for 427.6 billion won ($328.3 million) in August last year, with Hyundai Motor holding 55.9 percent and Kia 37.3 percent.
