More than 100 people killed in earthquake in northern China

Nine people have been confirmed dead and 124 others injured in the city of Haidong, northwest China's Qinghai Province, after a 6.2-magnitude earthquake jolted the neighboring Gansu Province late Monday evening, according to local authorities. The epicenter was located just 5 km from the border between the two provinces. Many areas in Qinghai have felt strong tremors. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) listed an alternate reading of 5.9 magnitude for the earthquake.
