The 250th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party

On 16 December 1773, a group of men called 'The Sons of Liberty' boarded the two ships docked in Boston Harbor and dumped 92,616 lbs (42,009 kg) of tea into the water. Those actions are considered to be the events that led to the American Revolution. This event, now known as the 'Boston Tea Party,' was the culmination of a resistance movement throughout British America against the Tea Act, where the colonists objected to their rights as Englishmen being violated by taxation without representation. On 04 July 2026, citizens will celebrate the 250th anniversary of signing the Declaration of Independence and the founding of the United States of America. EPA/CJ GUNTHER
