The Seoul Craft and Art Center CUBE is operating a booth under the theme of eco-friendliness at the ongoing Craft Trend Fair 2023 at Coex in Gangnam District, southern Seoul.
The center is a craft makerspace located in Nowon District, northern Seoul, affiliated with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Craft and Design Foundation. It supports the activities of both emerging and professional craftspeople, including distribution, exhibitions, education and launching startups.
In its booth at the fair, titled “Seoul Craft CUBE,” 10 artists managed by the center are presenting 23 crafts that reflect the concerns that craftspeople have as the natural resources used in crafts are diminishing.
An example includes “Glacier (1979, 2018),” made from hanji (traditional Korean mulberry paper) and lacquer, which points out how the number of glaciers on the North Pole has decreased between the two years.
One section of the booth is dedicated to raising awareness about the plastic bottles the world consumes and has made crafts by reusing them.
The sales coming from some of the crafts will be donated to environmental groups.

The Craft Trend Fair 2023 continues until Sunday.
