SeAH Wind Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of SeAH Steel Holdings Corp., has clinched a £900 million ($1.1 billion) contract with Swedish utility Vattenfall to produce monopiles for offshore wind energy installations.

The agreement, disclosed by SeAH Wind on Thursday, entails supplying monopiles for the Norfolk Vanguard project, a colossal offshore wind power endeavor led by Vattenfall in the South East of England.

The project is set to generate 2.8 gigawatts (GW) of electricity, capable of meeting the annual power needs of about 1.95 million homes.

Monopiles constitute an essential component of offshore wind turbines, functioning as fixed structures that underpin these renewable energy generators.

SeAH Wind will craft XXL-sized monopiles, boasting dimensions up to 11 meters in diameter, weighing 2,250 tons, and extending up to 95 meters in length to serve as the foundational support for the offshore wind turbines.

The significant contract marks SeAH Wind’s second major order, solidifying its position as the sole monopile producer in the UK since its establishment by SeAH Steel Holdings in 2020.

Coupled with its initial major order for the Hornsea 3 project, the subsidiary has secured a backlog of orders sufficient for three years after the expected commencement of mass production at its UK plant in early 2025.
