South Korea’s HD Hyundai Electric Co. announced Wednesday that its proposal to invest 117.3 billion won ($89 million) in the construction of a new factory for medium/low voltage circuit breakers has been approved by its board.

Medium/low voltage circuit breakers play a crucial role in distributing and supplying power from power plants to demand points. They act as distribution devices, interrupting power flow in case of anomalies to prevent accidents.

The new factory will be established within an 85,420-square-meter area in Cheongju Central Valley, located in Cheongju, North Chungcheong Province.

Construction is slated to commence in April next year, with completion expected by October 2025.

The facility will be a smart factory equipped with automated systems, aiming to achieve an annual production capacity of 13 million units by 2030.

The expansion will nearly double the company’s current production capacity for medium/low voltage circuit breakers.

Sales from power distribution equipment, including medium/low voltage circuit breakers, account for about 25 percent of the company’s entire revenue this year.
