Korean companies are gearing up to attend CES next month, and AI is poised to steal the spotlight.
CES is a major electronics trade show that takes place every year in Las Vegas. The 2024 event will take place from Jan. 9 through Jan. 12.
Samsung Electronics will hold a news conference titled “AI for All: Connectivity in the Age of AI” on Jan. 8 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center. Han Jong-hee, vice chairman of Samsung Electronics heading the DX (Device Experience) division, will take the stage to lay out the company's AI ambitions.
The Korean tech giant revealed its own generative AI model, Samsung Gauss, in November. Samsung plans to deploy the algorithm in its devices step by step, ranging from smartphones to laptops and home appliances. It is speculated that the newest Galaxy S24 flagship smartphone will launch next year with Samsung Gauss built in.
LG Electronics will also hold a news conference titled “Reinvent your future” on Jan. 8 at the same venue.
CEO William Cho is expected to present the company's vision of transforming into a “Smart Life Solution Company” as declared earlier in July as part of its Future Vision 2030.
The conference will outline ways in which LG is “leveraging AI to expand and enhance both the living space and the customer experience,” the company said.
LG Electronics is banking on generative AI technology to enhance home appliance functions and user experiences.
In July, it revealed its own in-house AI chip called DQ-C, which enables users to customize the company's home appliances and gadgets through display panels or apps. The DQ-C has been in development for more than three years, according to LG Electronics.
Hyundai Motor, which participates in the show biannually, will take part in the CES 2024.
HD Hyundai, Korea's shipbuilding company, will also participate in the trade show under the theme “Xite Transformation.”
“Xite Transformtion” is the company's vision to act on various issues such as safety, national security, supply chain and climate change.
HD Hyundai Vice Chairman and CEO Chung Ki-sun will make a keynote speech at the show, revealing the company's vision for infrastructure construction and its mid- to long-term objectives.
HD Hyundai has participated in the show for three consecutive years. Its booth will focus on three themes: Future Xite, Twin Xite and Zero Xite. Future Xite will envision HD Hyundai's idea of construction sites utilizing unmanned and automatic technology. Twin Xite will showcase digital twin technology where construction sites can be controlled virtually. Zero Xite will focus on environmentally friendly value chains.
