Singer Choi Min-hwan of FTIsland and Yulhee, a former member of girl group Laboum, are going separate ways after five years of marriage.
"After careful and difficult deliberation, I cautiously share this news with you," Choi said on his Instagram on Monday.
"We have mutually agreed to conclude our marriage life following lengthy discussions. I am sorry to those who have supported and watched us since we decided to start a family at a young age. I will do my utmost as a father to ensure our children are not emotionally hurt."
Choi Min-hwan and Yulhee's relationship became public in 2017. They welcomed a son in 2018 and held their wedding ceremony in October of the same year. They also had twin daughters in February 2020.
The couple was known as a rare example of a K-pop idol couple. Choi, Yulhee and their son joined the cast of "Mr. House Husband" in January 2019, a KBS show featuring families of celebrities.
"After serious consideration, the two have decided to divorce and are currently undergoing the divorce mediation process," FNC Entertainment said.
"It has been agreed that Choi Min-hwan will have custody of their three children," the agency added.
Yulhee also shared a message on her Instagram.
"While our journey as a married couple ends here, our roles as mother and father do not," she said on Monday.
"Both of us are doing our best to care for and communicate with our children. I am making sure to meet with them frequently so they do not feel the absence of their mother."
Choi debuted as a drummer of boy band FTIsland in 2007. The band is known for multiple songs released throughout its 16-year-long career, such as "Love Sick" (2007), "I Hope" (2009), "Severely" (2012) and "I Wish" (2012).
Yulhee debuted as a member of girl group Laboum in 2014. Laboum is known for songs like "Journey to Atlantis" (2016), "Pit-A-Pat" (2014) and "Winter Story" (2016). She left the group in 2017.
