South Korea’s style commerce platform ABLY on Wednesday announced a significant increase in transactions related to ‘alternative albums,’ which are gaining attention as the next-generation music consumption pattern after streaming.

Alternative albums are albums that allow users to easily enjoy music via near-field communication (NFC) or quick-response (QR) codes, and come in the form of photos, cards, and kits.

According to ABLY’s analysis of its sales data from October 20 to November 20, transactions in the ‘photo album and collect book’ category within the lifestyle section increased by 60 percent compared to the same period a year ago.

Transactions for products with the term ‘photo card’ in the product name jumped by more than 260 percent and those with ‘top loader,’ which can store photos or cards, also rose 180 percent.

ABLY said that it was effective to establish a related category for the first time on a fashion platform in March 2021 and strengthen its product capabilities in response to changes in music consumption patterns.

“As a platform used by 7.2 million monthly active users, we are able to immediately notice changes in trends not only in fashion, but also in life categories such as stationery, hobbies, and digital devices,” an ABLY official said. “We will continue to maximize customer shopping convenience by organizing categories that meet customers’ specific needs.”
