The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is preparing to renovate 400 historic Yemeni buildings in the southern city of Aden and three Yemeni World Heritage Sites in danger, including the old cities of Sana'a, Zabid, and Shibam, since these historic urban sites have sustained damage due to the nine-year long war and the climate change, according to a statement by Salah Khaled, Director of UNESCO Doha Office for Gulf States and Yemen, during his recent visit to Yemen. More than 500 historic multi-story tower buildings have been renovated between 2018 and 2022, in the UNESCO-listed historic Yemeni sites, according to UNESCO. The old city of Sana's was listed as a world heritage site by UNESCO in 1986 as it is one of the oldest continuously-inhabited cities in the world. EPA/YAHYA ARHAB
