Suppliers experience unfair practices by major retailers

Fewer suppliers felt that trading practices in transactions with major retailers have improved this year compared to last year, a survey showed Monday.

According to a survey conducted by the Fair Trade Commission on Monday, 90.7 percent of suppliers in the retail sector felt that the trading practices of large retailers have improved this year from the previous year. The figure is down 2.2 percentage points from a year ago.

By type, 94.6 percent of suppliers indicated improvement in trade practices among hypermarkets and corporate supermarkets, while only 80.6 percent observed such improvement among online shopping malls, representing the lowest figure.

The largest percentage of suppliers reported experiencing disadvantages, with 3.8 percent of respondents, followed by delayed payment (3.7 percent), improper handover of promotional costs (3.4 percent), and reduced payment (2.7 percent).

The survey was conducted on 7,000 suppliers engaged in transactions with 34 major retailers.
