The Spanish Prize Papers at the National Archives

epa10990850 A conservator displays undelivered letters sent from Lima to Cadiz in 1779 on the ship La Perla but seized the British, from The Spanish Prize Papers at a presentation event at The National Archives in London, Britain, 23 November 2023. The Prize Papers are documents and artefacts seized from over 35,000 foreign ships by British vessels between 1652 and 1815. The collection has over 50,000 items, including diplomatic cargos, strategic defence intelligence and some 160,000 of them are undelivered letters along with cultural and personal items, most of them have not been opened since they were first written. The discoveries of the research can potentially adjust global, colonial and maritime history. EPA/TOLGA AKMEN
