Mirae Asset Global Investments named Vice Chairman Rhie Chun-yong as the new CEO of the asset management company.
The terms for CEO Choi Chang-hoon have also been extended, the company said following the extraordinary meeting of shareholders held on Thursday.
There are two CEOs at Mirae Asset Global Investments.
Choi, who became the company’s CEO in 2021, was able to extend the term as the board took a favorable view of his stable management of assets and securing of diversity in property investments, the company said in a statement.
Born in 1969, Choi studied business at Ohio University.
Rhie is seen to have a deep understanding of the general management of asset operations, including stocks and bonds. He played a major role in developing the company’s exchange-traded funds and his overseas experience working at Mirae Asset Global Investments’ offices in Britain, the United States and Brazil were acknowledged, according to the company.
Also born in 1969, Rhie studied business at Seoul National University.
“The two appointed CEOs not only have a high understanding of the financial sector but also have leadership skills and a mind for global management,” said a spokesperson for Mirae Asset Global Investments.
