LG Electronics is setting up EV chargers in the United States, marking its first foray into the overseas market.

The Korean company said Thursday that it will launch two types of chargers — a slower 11-kilowatts option and a 175-kilowatt option — in the country by the first half of 2024.

The rapid chargers will be configurable as both a combined charging system (CCS1) or Tesla's North American Charging Standard (NACS). The slower options are CCS1-only.

The company plans to expand the rapid lineup in the latter half of 2024, as there is more demand for it from commercial and long-distance drives.

LG Electronics has been expanding its business scope with a focus on electrification and the business-to-business market.

It has been developing EV chargers since 2018 and acquired EV charger manufacturer AppleMango in 2022.

The company currently operates four types of EV chargers in Korea, which are installed at retailer locations like Emart.
