South Korea’s OCI Holdings Co. Ltd. announced on Tuesday that it signed a multilateral business agreement with its subsidiary OCI SE Co., Ltd., Gunsan City Hall, and Kunsan National University. The agreement outlines collaborative efforts aimed at conserving the marine ecosystem and ensuring biodiversity in North Jeolla Province.

OCI Holdings plans to collaborate with Kunsan National University, which operates marine ecosystem-related education programs, provides hands-on experiences and education to residents, and spreads positive awareness about marine environmental conservation.

OCI Holdings will also conduct a month-long internal campaign in December 2023 to educate all group employees about biodiversity conservation. The campaign will introduce endangered species in the Gunsan region, emphasizing the importance of biodiversity preservation.

“We are committed to actively engaging in various biodiversity conservation activities in collaboration with local business sites and subsidiaries. Simultaneously, through substantial investments in the field of biodiversity, we aim to fulfill our role as a leading company in ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management,” OCI Holdings Senior Managing Director Sung Kwang-hyun said.

Jung Kang-mo, Director of Science Education Institute for the Gifted under Kunsan National University, expressed optimism, calling the collaboration “a meaningful first step for marine biodiversity conservation in Gunsan.” “Leveraging the rich educational infrastructure and program experience of the institute, we anticipate successful hands-on activities,” the professor said.
