Keena of girl group Fifty Fiftywill attend the 2023 Billboard Music Awards (BBMAs) as the only member left of what used to be a four-member group famed for its hit dance track, "Cupid.”
Keena is scheduled to depart for Los Angeles on Thursday to attend a private party on Saturday and meet with global music industry officials, according to her agency Attrakt.
Fifty Fifty has been nominated for Top Duo/Group and Top Global K-pop Song in the upcoming BBMAs. Its first single “The Beginning: Cupid” and its lead track “Cupid” slipped into the Billboard Hot 100 at the 100th spot, just 130 days after its debut, setting a record of the fastest entry into the Billboard Hot 100 by a K-pop artist.
Keena will be receiving her first payment from the group's activities and music income, local media reported last week. The amount was not disclosed, but the reports speculated that some "tens of millions of won" will be paid to the Fifty Fifty member.
The agency Attrakt did not comment on whether the other three members would also be receiving payments. The agency recently terminated its contract with the other three members, Saena, Aran and Sio, prior to the local court siding with the agency and ruling that it wasn't up to the members to break ties with the agency.
Fifty Fifty debuted in November 2022 with four members: Keena, Saena, Aran and Sio.
The contract termination on Oct. 19 comes after the members had sued Attrakt, claiming that the company mistreated them and did not share the company's income with the girl group. The court dismissed their request for an injunction to end their exclusive contracts with Attrakt, except for Keena, who dropped her case and returned to the agency last month.
