Samsung SDI, Volvo Trucks strengthen collaboration on 5th anniversary

South Korea’s Samsung SDI Co. and global commercial vehicle manufacturer Volvo Trucks on Tuesday reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing strategic partnership on their fifth anniversary of collaboration.

The management team from Volvo, including Martin Lundstedt, chief executive officer of Volvo Group, recently visited Samsung SDI’s plant in Cheonan, South Chungcheong Province, to mark the fifth anniversary milestone. They discussed plans for expanding their collaboration, according to an official from Samsung SDI.

The two companies not only expressed their intention to bolster cooperation in the electric truck and bus sectors but also set their sights on venturing into the areas of construction equipment and energy storage systems.

Samsung SDI initiated its partnership with Volvo Trucks, the world’s largest commercial vehicle manufacturer, in 2018 by providing battery cells for electric trucks and buses through German battery system manufacturer Akasol.

In 2019, Samsung SDI and Volvo Trucks formalized a strategic business agreement geared towards next-generation electric mobility.

Samsung SDI batteries are currently used in Volvo Trucks’ electric trucks and buses.
