CNTUS, an advanced material filter specialist announced Monday the establishment of its subsidiary, NBM, which will lead a new strategic venture in the field of medical bio-materials.

NBM will focus on the development and commercialization of medical bio-application products, with an emphasis on Poly L lactic acid (PLLA) as a key element in its medical bio-material business.

PLLA is a biodegradable polymer material and it is commonly used in various medical applications such as medical fillers, anti-adhesion films, medical supports, and other medical materials.

According to global market research firm Stratistics MRC, the global medical plastics market is projected to grow at an annual average of 9.1 percent, reaching about $70 billion by 2028.

“We have been actively involved in the development of biodegradable bio-plastic PLA material masks in collaboration with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy since 2021,” said a CNTUS official. “Leveraging our expertise and technological capabilities, we are preparing to expand into the field of medical bio-applications with PLLA.”

NBM aims to complete Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) certification for its Ulsan plant by 2025, enabling the full-scale development of PLLA material-based medical bio-application products starting in 2026.
